My developing understanding of people in crisis has made me a more compassionate and less judgmental person. I like to see the smile of appreciation from someone who comes into the donation center, hear the ‘thank you’ for helping with food preparation, and support a feeling of pride that clients feel when they have turned their lives around. Meet Lynn Wildnauer a seasoned volunteer at Knox County Homeless Coalition who is eager to help in almost any capacity. She first became involved with KCHC, and volunteering, through our summer barbecues and then became a mentor for one of our post-housing support families. Over the last few years, however, she has done everything from answering the phones and manning the front desk at our Welcome Center to helping children of our clients make Christmas gifts for their parents at a holiday fair. She also provides general support in the donation center and has been on-call for any number of special projects including volunteer training events and strategic planning sessions.

As Volunteer Coordinator for a little more than a year now, I can honestly say that I have learned a great deal from Lynn.  She has contributed well over 100 hours this year in the various capacities (not inclusive of the hours she spends with the family she mentors) and is still the first person to respond whenever I reach out for help.
