We Thrive With A Lot Of Help From Our Friends
Beatles legends Lennon and McCartney wrote,
“With a little help from my friends.”
These words have special meaning here at Knox County Homeless Coalition as we reflect on the amazing contributions made to our clients by this generous community. KCHC thrives as the result of a lot of help from our friends.
Our modest Welcome Center often bursts at the seams with donations of clothes, food, appliances, and other goodies for the families we serve. We are so appreciative of these acts of kindness and generosity. Thank you so much for your help!
Donations of goods -- or in-kind items -- received by KCHC at our Hospitality House location are processed by a small but mighty team of staff and volunteers. All boxes and bags are carefully sorted by hand to identify items which can be immediately used by our families. Other items are either stored for later use or shared with partner agencies in the area. Due to an overabundance of donated goods, we have run out of extra storage “for later use” and do not have enough staff to transport goods to other partner organizations. It is a good problem to have, but still a challenge for our team.
We ask you, our wonderful community, to help us overcome this challenge.
Beginning April 1, KCHC will only accept essential items needed by our clients. What are “essential items”? Great question! Introducing the new Knox County Homeless Coalition Donation Guide. We kindly ask donors to review this guide and call ahead with questions. If you have items to donate which are not included on our new guide, we encourage you to share the love with Goodwill or Salvation Army, partner organizations who have the capacity to sort large volumes of miscellaneous goodies.
The KCHC Welcome Center is open to accept your generous donations of new or “like new” essential items on Wednesdays only from 9A to 4P at 169 Old County Rd in Rockport. Gently used furniture is also always needed for newly housed clients and can be donated BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Our team also shares a weekly “Wishlist Wednesday” on our Facebook page with special requests from families moving into new homes. Like us to stay connected!
Once again, friends, thank you so much for your generosity and support of our mission to break the cycles of poverty and homelessness in Midcoast Maine.
