Adopt-A-Family 2020

Hope_Joy_Peace_Love.jpg

It’s time again for our Adopt-A-Family program! Adopt-a-Family gives community members an opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for the courageous families we serve in the Midcoast region. We invite you to participate in our 5th annual Adopt-A-Family program this year—with a few modifications as we do our best to comply with CDC recommendations for public safety during COVID-19. Our client care team is helping more families than ever before and we hope you’ll join us as we work to brighten the lives of struggling neighbors with a little holiday joy.

Those interested in adopting a family can do so by selecting and ordering gifts from the online wishlist here and have the items shipped directly to KCHC where our “elves” will wrap and deliver them, limiting the number of potential interactions. Please order by December 1, 2020 to give our elves time to receive shipped items, wrap and deliver.

We’ve extended shopping through December 4, 2020!!

There are some items requested that cannot be sourced through online retailers (experiences like a family night at the movies, dinner at a local restaurant, haircuts, an item only seen in a local shop etc.). Donations will gladly be accepted to help cover these and other locally sourced items at homehelphope.org/donate-now by choosing “Adopt-A-Family” from the drop down menu.

Don’t forget to shop through Amazon Smile and choose Knox County Homeless Coalition as your beneficiary. Find out more here.

Are you supporting any local merchants?

YES! There are always items that can’t be purchased online. For items such as haircuts, the experience of dinner at a local restaurant, firewood, etc. – we will source those locally. We ask that if you are interested in donating to help cover those kinds of requests that you donate through homehelphope.org/donate-now by choosing “Adopt-A-Family” from the drop down menu to indicate you would like your donation to go toward this project.

Can I share the wishlist with friends and family?

YES! Please do. Just copy the link and share!

Who do you support through this program?

The Adopt-A-Family Program at KCHC is open to ALL active clients. About half of our clients at any given time are actively experiencing homelessness and the other half have recently found housing and are working with us through our post-housing support programming to make sure that housing is sustainable. Household sizes range from 1 to 6 or more.

What kinds of things are on the lists?

Items range from basic needs like coats and school/work clothes to toys for kids or sometimes a favorite brand of body product that might be a luxury but doesn’t make the budget. So that we may support as many people as possible, we ask families to keep wishlists to between $50-$75 per person.

Can I purchase just one or two items?

YES! Unlike years past when we have asked people to commit to a full wishlist, the online purchasing this year does allow for this. Simply look through the list and purchase the items that speak to you!

I’m not around this winter, can I participate?

YES! Since you don’t need to wrap and deliver the items to our Rockport location, you can participate from anywhere in the world this year!
